New Manchester City signing Jesus Navas has set his sights on winning the UEFA Champions League.
The Spanish winger completed his move to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday and has immediately targeted lifting silverware both at home and in Europe.
Navas is the second signing the club have made ahead of the 2013-14 season joining Fernandinho, who arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk and he feels they are moving in the right direction, despite currently having no manager in place after Roberto Mancini s departure.
During his time at Sevilla, Navas collected the UEFA Cup and Copa del Rey twice as well as being part of the Spain squads that won the 2012 European Championship and 2010 World Cup, but he hopes moving to the Premier League will enable him to win Europe s premier club competition.
I ve won some important titles with Sevilla, he said. But the Champions League is something you always have in mind. And also to enjoy the Premier League and have a really strong year.
The challenge we have is to obtain important titles, and be at a stadium like the Etihad and to enjoy the games, where I feel we ll do great.
Navas was a product of the Sevilla youth system and made nearly 300 appearances after breaking into the first team. He had been linked with moves away from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan before, but resisted a transfer due to chronic homesickness.
However, following a programme of extensive counselling, the 27-year-old is confident he can put any personal anxieties to rest.
I think I ll be fine, he added. I love what I do, which is to play football, and for me the most important thing is to enjoy it as much as possible, because we have a great squad.
Well considering everything, it was the confidence that I could play there, and the truth is that I m very happy to play for such a big club.
Individually above all, City have so many good players and the idea of playing there with such amazing players and fighting for a title, because I feel we have a good team to do that.
And City are clearly keen to meet Navas expectations as a new study has found them to be the highest-paying sports team in the world.
A list compiled by Sportingintelligence found that, on average, the Premier League club pay their players 100,764 pounds per week putting them above the likes of second-placed MLB outfit Los Angeles Dodgers and Spanish football giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
